Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
Join our Board of Directors
The Kennedy Heights Community Center is seeking committed community members to join our board of directors. All residents of the Kennedy Heights townhouses are welcome and encouraged to join. Other volunteers with expertise in accounting, public relations, law, human resources, early childhood, positive youth development, fundraising and a commitment to the success of the Kennedy Heights Community Center are strongly encouraged to apply. A full job description and nomination form are available by clicking the links. The board meets on the third Wednesday at 5:30 PM.
Assist with Children and Youth Programs
All of our children and youth programs welcome volunteers to assist with programming needs. These opportunities range from helping with our youngest children in the early childhood program to helping work with our middle school boys and girls groups. Volunteers can tutor, mentor, act as a reading buddy, teach a special skill, coach, and much more. Please call the center (608) 244-0767 or refer to our volunteer application for more information. Times vary, a weekly commitment of at least one semester is required.
Help fill our Food Pantry Shelves
The food pantry seeks volunteers to help collect and distribute food for our food pantry. Food collection takes place on Sunday afternoons and Monday between 1:00 - 3:30. Food distribution takes place Mondays between 4:00 - 6:00 PM. This volunteer position includes some heavy lifting.
One Time Volunteer Opportunities
Throughout the year the community center hosts a number of one-time volunteer opportunities. These include assisting with family literacy night, rolling egg rolls, painting the community center, landscaping, and cleaning and organizing the center. The community center also seeks skilled volunteers to assist as one time consultants on web-site design, public relations, newsletter editing, and light carpentery and vehcile maintenance. Marketing, design, and technology volunteers are particularly needed.
Service Learning
Kennedy Heights Community Center hosts service learning students and interns from area universities and colleges. The community center staff will work with students to establish learning outcomes and help to create opportunities for the student to have new experiences will providing needed services to the community center.
