Kennedy Heights Community Center provides social, cultural, recreational, and educational programs for the children and adults living at Kennedy Heights in the hopes of adding variety and enrichment to their lives.
Description:
The Kennedy Heights Community Center is a small center serving the north-east side of Madison -- specifically the 104 apartments in the Kennedy Heights low and medium income housing project. The building and its programs foster community integration and activities for the many Hmong families living in this neighborhood. The Center offers programs and services to the adults and children living in this diverse community. The activities and programs are reliant on volunteers for their new ideas, energy, and skills. It is a place for integration and provides the numerous volunteers, as well as the residents, an enriching experience.
History:
Kennedy Heights Neighborhood Association was formed in 1983 in suppport of a community center to service youth and surrounding community.In 1986, money was attained to build the apartment complex's first Community Center, which was expanded and modified to its present form in 1994. The Kennedy Heights Community Center has maintained the association's original goal to provide activities specifically designed for low and middle income families.
